Tennis

King George V Playing Fields is home to Ferndown Community Tennis. The 6 court facility was refurbished in Summer 2020 to improve the surface to the courts and upgrade the floodlights, ensuring year-round tennis availability.

We have two ways to get involved and play tennis with us:
1. Ferndown Community Tennis Pass – We offer an annual household tennis pass which costs just £37 per year and entitles your entire household free court bookings throughout the year (additional charges for floodlight use).
2. Pay & Play – If you don’t want to commit to a full year, just pay as you play! Courts are available from as little as £6 per hour.

To book a court you can either book through the Lawn Tennis Assciation ClubSpark website or download the ClubSpark Booker App, which is the easiest way to book your court.
More information about the Ferndown Community Tennis Pass can be found here: http://clubspark.lta.org.uk/FerndownCommunityTennis

Ferndown Tennis Club and ‘Live For Tennis’ Coaching are also based on the courts at KGV Playing Fields. Ferndown Tennis Club organise their club sessions and matches and ‘Live For Tennis’ delivers a community coaching programme for all. More information about club activity and coaching can be found via the links below.

King George V Bowling Green

Another attribute to the King George V Playing Fields is its outside bowling green situated next to the KGV pavilion. It prides itself on being one of the best kept local bowling surfaces.
It is home to Ferndown Bowls Club between April to September which is a friendly and active Club with over 80 members.

The club was founded in 1962 as a separate Ferndown Men’s Bowling Club and later a Women’s section was formed.  In 2009 the two clubs were amalgamated to form Ferndown Bowls Club and set up home at the KGV facility.

For more information about Ferndown Bowls Club, visit the website www.ferndownbowls.co.uk
The bowling green is available to members of the public to use during certain times. For more information contact the KGV office on 01202 897050.

Young Childrens Play Park

The playpark is located next to the tennis courts and is a very popular with young children in the town. The park underwent an extensive upgrade in April 2020 and now provides for over 40 different play experiences including play equipment for younger children, such as the UniMini Apista multi-unit, and a 4m rope net and rope swing for children up to the age of 14.

There are also play units that make the playground inclusive for all abilities. These include:
• The Mirage Swing Seat which boasts an ergonomic design and is great for children with cerebral palsy.

• A Spinmee roundabout to burn off energy which can accommodate wheelchair users and meet the needs of SEND children.

• Play panels to stimulate cognitive activity.

• There are also plenty of different swinging opportunities for each and every child, to encourage interaction.

Wheel Sports Facility

Ferndown’s wheeled sports facility is located on the KGV playing fields and can be accessed from the Cherry Grove entrance.

This unique and innovative facility was extended in Autumn 2020 to make way for a concrete park comprising a wealth of features including a halfpipe, blended jumpbox, pump bump, volcano and offers users the opportunity to carve around the whole park or concentrate on a favourite line.

A new concrete facility has been designed to meet the needs of both beginners and the more experienced users – each with their own designated zone –  providing a resource that can be enjoyed by people of all ages on skateboards, scooters and BMX bikes.  It has been carefully designed to migrate into the original tarmac park which has kept many of its key features.

In addition there is also a MiniWheels area for younger children or beginners to safely learn the fundamentals and develop their skills away from the faster action on the new park.
