Mike Parkes

Central Ward

Mike has lived in and around Ferndown for all of his life, so knows the area very well.

On leaving school in 1991, he pursued a career in the Civil Service starting with the Atomic Energy Authority, moving to the Ministry of Defence at Bovington in 1997, progressing through the organisation to the senior management team where he now manages all the support services in a large maintenance facility that repairs and overhauls tanks and military vehicles.

In addition to his full time career, since 1994 Mike has served as a Retained (On Call) Firefighter, working for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service at Ferndown Fire Station and has been the Officer in Change since 2000.

For many years Mike has been involved with charitable and voluntary work within a number of organisations both at a local and national level. He is currently a trustee of several charities.

When he gets time, Mike likes to spend his time outside and likes watersports, walking and skiing. Visiting new places and travelling is a pastime he enjoys and he has experienced many different countries and cultures across the world.

Mike has served as a Town Councillor since 1998 and is currently the longest serving member of Ferndown Town Council. Over the years he has served on the all of its committees and has an extensive knowledge of matters relating to the town over this period. Mike served as the town's Mayor in 2014/15 and 2016/17.

For Mike, Ferndown is not only a place to call home, but is somewhere he loves and believes in, wanting what is best for the town and the community that lives in it.
