Ameysford Ward

Born in Tuckton, Bournemouth many moons ago I was brought up in a restaurant and retail environment. After qualifying at Bournemouth College I became for many years an hotelier in Bournemouth, the family owing the Avon Royal, Hazelwood and then the Cumberland Hotels.

I married my talented and beautiful Chinese Malaysian wife in 1977, and Susie now works part-time in child care in Poole, having retrained in recent years. We have one son who works in London in IT in a university hospital. We have lived in Longham since 1989, having renovated a rambling but rundown old farm.

A slight change of direction took my wife and I into providing self-catering accommodation on the West Cliff. When this became fruitless due to daft EU laws and regulations we sold up and invested in property, something we still have.

When leaving the self-catering industry I found I had some time on my hands and joined UKIP, swiftly becoming the chairman for the North Dorset constituency. I stood at both District and County council levels polling well above UKIP usual percentages. Having not been fully successful, in 2011 I put myself forward for the Ameysford ward in the Town Council, and as there were three candidates for the three ward seats the country was spared the expense of an election!

I have found working for the Council both interesting and informative having served on Planning, Grants, Environment, and Finance and General Purposes Committees and on the Management Committee of the King George's Fields charity. The plethora of voluntary work being carried out locally is an inspiration to us all, and I hope to become more involved as time passes.

I find my council colleagues very supportive and very dedicated to Ferndown’s health, prosperity, and future. I can assure you that Ferndown is in very safe hands! The prospects, with hard work, will be very bright for our lovely town.

In my spare time – something now considerably limited! – my main interests outside of council and politics are motoring, gardening and family research. This latter obsession of 30 years has revealed over 5,000 names on a widespread tree, with one very distant relative being David Lloyd George!

I am here to help both the residents of Ameysford and the rest of Ferndown. Please contact me if you feel I can be of assistance.
