Mayoral News 2016

December 2016

As we approach the end of a very busy 2016, it is a great opportunity to reflect on the past year and look forward to the future. It has been a privilege for me to serve as the Mayor of Ferndown for a second time and I have attended a number of engagements with community groups, local charities, voluntary organisations and businesses in and around the town. I have learned about the tremendous support, help and encouragement they provide to a wide spectrum of the community of Ferndown. All in all I’ve been bowled over by the generosity, goodwill and commitment evident in our town.

At my Civic Day in September, I showcased to a number of community leaders across Dorset the many varied assets the town has to offer to its residents and beyond. Ferndown is rich with history and has a lot to offer in terms of its physical assets, but its essence is the people that make up the town and its community spirit – this is what makes Ferndown the wonderful place it is to live. This spirit was certainly evident at the town’s Christmas Light Switch-On which saw a great turn-out and it was wonderful to see the town buzzing.

Looking forward to 2017, there are certainly exciting times ahead for the community of Ferndown with the Council agreeing to move forward with proposals to redevelop King George V Recreation Ground and run a youth service for young people in Ferndown. These are ambitious proposals but will be great assets which the whole town can enjoy for many years to come. As these proposals develop, the Town Council will be asking for your views.

On behalf of the town councillors and staff at Ferndown Town Council, the Deputy Town Mayor and myself, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
