Our club is a group of amateur and semi-professional artists, who want to enjoy the company of like-minded people to exchange art skills and ideas. The Society has grown considerably in size since it was founded in 1972, but has retained its character of being a friendly group of people who enjoy art. We have untutored, informal meetings every Wednesday morning at the Barrington Centre, using our own materials and working on our own projects.

The Society holds demonstration meetings in the Conference Room of the Barrington Centre on the third Thursday of each month (with the exception of August), when we invite a visiting artist to demonstrate their painting techniques. These are high-quality demonstrations in a variety of media including pastels, watercolour, oils, acrylics and other mixed media, lasting about two hours with a break for coffee/tea. They are free for club members and £5 for visitors. The list of workshops for 2020 up to April are as follows: -

* 16th January – Stephen Foster – Landscapes with pallet knife in acrylics

* 20th February – Alan Langford – Equestrian watercolours

* 19th March - tbc

Yearly membership is £33 with an additional charge of £27 per term for the Wednesday workshops.

Regular exhibitions are being held during the year.

The club has taken part in many SAA challenges and on several occasions had work reproduced in their national magazine. At this year’s art exhibition at Upton Park, visitors voted for their favourite exhibit. Carol Curran won with her work called `The Guru`, which was drawn using graphite pencils.  Her drawing featured in the Leisure Painter `Club Artist` page. There are other artists in the club who regularly sell paintings and those members who enjoy painting as a hobby.
