Dorset CCC

Dorset County Cricket Club’s winter preparations have gone well and Coach Alan Willows is looking forward to getting his side out on the pitch and building on last season’s efforts. Alan says ‘Last season was slightly disappointing following the Minor Counties Championship success in 2010. We struggled to get a settled side on the pitch and if we can manage to do that this then I’m sure we’ll be competitive in both the One Day and Championship Trophies this season’.

Dorset’s squad has been strengthened over the winter with the addition of former Somerset, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire quick bowler Stefan Jones. Jones who played two Championship matches for the County back in 2009 is now teaching and he’s kept in touch with Willows who is delighted with the signing ‘Stef is a great guy who will bring so much to our side both on and off the pitch. We’ve been looking a top class bowler and he fits the bill perfectly and he can also add useful runs with the bat in the lower order. Dave Kidner has also rejoined the Dorset squad and his left arm seam will bring further class to the pace attack. No players have left the squad and Willows is hoping some of the talented youngsters in the Dorset A side can push for 1st team places. Masoor Khan, Tom Jacques, Mark House and James Park all made their debuts last season and they will be hoping to impress in pre season.

Tom Hicks will continue to lead the side, described by Willows as true leader he will this year be assisted by Aaron Williams who replace Chris Park as vice-captain.

Dorset will once again be supported by their long-term sponsor the Hearn Group who are in the seventh year of sponsorship with the County side.

In the One Day Trophy Dorset have been drawn in a Group 4 with Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Staffordshire and Wales. Their two home games in the Group stages will both be played at Dean Park rather than Dorchester and Weymouth.

In the 3 Day Championship Dorset will entertain Berkshire, Shropshire and Wiltshire all at Dean Park. They will travel to Cheshire, Devon and Oxfordshire for their away fixtures.

Dorset open their season with friendly’s against Dorset League XI, Wiltshire over the Easter weekend at Dean Park and travel to the Rose Bowl to play Hampshire 2nds before their opening One Day Trophy fixture against Buckinghamshire.
