Job Description: Grounds Person /Assistant Lengthsman

Reporting to: Head Groundsman/Lengthsman

Salary: SCP 12 £24,496 – SCP 14 £25,409 per year (depending on experience) – plus pension scheme

Hours of work: The hours of work are 37 hours per week, split between KGV 21 hours and FTC 16 hours. Hours may be worked between 0730hrs and 1630hrs Monday – Friday, however, this is subject to a work rota which includes weekends and will be agreed at least one month beforehand with the Head Groundsman

Holiday: 22 days annual leave, plus bank holidays

Job role:

  1. You will be working alongside a team of ground staff and administrative staff to manage the maintenance and preparation of the sports pitches at the King Georges Field, Ferndown and such other open spaces / playground equipment areas / sports pitches etc. under the control of Ferndown Town Council (FTC).

The Sports pitches include:

  • Bowling green
  • Football pitches
  • Cricket square and outfield
  • Tennis Courts

 

The other facilities include:-

  • Children’s Playgrounds e.g. KGV and Dugdell Close
  • Skateboard Park
  • Millennium Park
  • King George V Pavilion
  • Ford Lane Recreation Ground
  • Longham Allotments

 

  1. Control, manage and oversee regular litter collection and dog waste collection duties.
  2. You will be expected to take utmost care to consider all Health and Safety issues and you will be expected to undertake Health and Safety daily checks as set out in the various risk assessments. Records of such checks will need to be recorded.
  3. You will be working with mechanical equipment and will be expected to be conversant with Health and Safety matters relating to this.
  4. You will be jointly responsible for the control, maintenance and security of physical resources (tools, machinery, plant, vehicles, buildings and site).
  5. You will also be required to work with or to cover absences of the Ferndown Town Council Lengthsman for on average two days a week and to undertake such work as removal of litter, emptying and control / installation of litter bins, removal and control of weeds and other vegetation, cleaning and minor repairs of street signs and street furniture, grass cutting, pruning of bushes / trees, removal of fly posting, graffiti etc.
  6. As an assistant to the Town Lengthsman, you will ensure that work which you carry out will be correctly recorded on time / work sheets. When working on the highway you will ensure that the appropriate warning signs are erected so that road users / pedestrians are aware of your activities. The amber warning light will be illuminated where appropriate.
  7. You will be responsible for the safe keeping and condition of physical resources assigned to you including the Town Lengthsman vehicle, tractor, trailer and utility vehicle etc.
  8. You will ensure that work carried out conforms to the risk assessment which has been put in place for the activity e.g. lone working, working at height. If no risk assessment is held for the activity, then one should be prepared in conjunction with the Lengthsman before the task is commenced.

 

Essential:

Driving licence

Punctual

Polite and respectful

 

Desirable:

Preferably trained in use of strimmer’s, hedge cutter, mowers, PA1 and PA6 weed spraying certificate.
