Last weekend, Ferndown came together to support the annual Poppy Appeal Launch event.
The Bournemouth Youth Marching Band led a parade of local dignitaries, town councillors and young people before gathering at the flagpole outside of the Barrington Centre for the official service.
Ferndown’s Mayor, Councillor Terry Cordery, accompanied by Deputy Lieutenant Liz Willingham, shared his warm words, welcomed everyone, and announced the winner of Ferndown’s Best Dressed Shop Window competition. A huge congratulations to our winner, AE Jolliffe & Son, your display beautifully captured the spirit of remembrance.
We were especially honoured to host Deputy Lieutenant Liz Willingham, attending her first official engagement in her new role. She kindly wished the best for our event and took part in the service, officially purchasing the second poppy after our Mayor.
After hearing words from the Royal British Legion’s Chairman, Neil Thompson, and a welcome prayer and blessing from United Church’s Reverend Darren Pike, we heard the Last Post before our 2 minutes silence.
Following the service, the Bournemouth Youth Marching Band delighted us with a FREE concert in the Barrington Centre.
Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped make this launch so memorable. Together we are helping to keep the memory of those who served alive and supporting our veterans and their families.
