VACANCIES FOR COUNCILLORS
As no BY-ELECTION has been claimed within the statutory time limit, these three vacancies will be filled by co-option.
Anyone wishing to be considered should write or e mail the Town Clerk by Monday 23rd August 2010 with a brief curriculum vitae and an accompanying letter explaining why they wish to be considered for the vacancy.
The following paragraph indicates some of the requirements for holding office as a Councillor, although they should not be taken as carrying any legal authority.
A person is qualified to be elected and to be a Councillor if he / she is a British subject, a Commonwealth Citizen or a citizen of a European Union state; is 18 years of age or over as at 6th September 2010; has during the whole 12 months preceding that day occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish/town, or his principal or only place of work during those 12 months has been in the parish/town; or during the whole of these 12 months has resided in the parish/town or within three miles of it. The person would not be able to seek co-option if they are disqualified in accordance with Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972, or any decision made under section 79 of the Local Government Act 2000.
Each Nomination should be supported by a Proposer and Seconder who must also be recorded on the Register of Electors for Ferndown Town Council area. On Monday 6th September at 1930hrs the Town Council will invite prospective candidates to make a short presentation on how they can contribute to the Town Council and its community by becoming a member.
